Since July 8th 2008, only one month before the Beijing Olympic game, Beijing started to restrict the use of private vehicles based on even- and odd-numbered license plates. This regulation is being called the ‘Road Space Rationing’. The driving management aimed to reduce traffic by restricting automobile travel through means such as restriction of cars that could enter common road space based upon the last digits of the license number on certain established days during certain periods in Beijing. The main objective of this restraint policy in Beijing is to reduce the amount of exhausted gas generated by motor vehicles.
According to a third party test, the policy greatly reduced the car emissions to only 60% of the original date reported before the policy was carried out.

On April 24th 2014, the eighth meeting of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress passed the New Environment Protection Law. This is the first overall revision of the Environment Protection Law in 25 years. The new law not only includes regional air pollution and watershed pollution but also soil contamination and other prominent environmental issues into the legislation content, on the other hand, the most stringent enforcement tools and policies are part of the legislation content as well. The revised Environmental Protection Law proposed that when failing to face major severe environmental emergencies, the head of local government, environmental protection department and other direct regulatory authorities will be resigned.
The revised Environmental Protection Law has been implemented since Jan 1st, 2015.

Through July 19th to 21st 2015, The 6th China International Environmental Protection & Eco-city Expo (CIEPE) was held in Beijing. It is the most prestigious environmental exhibition in China as well as the world’s well-known event for environmental technologies, products and services. It has been playing an important role in assisting the government to pursue environmental strategies, policies, investment plans and to guide the market development.
The exhibition this year includes:
Water supply equipment.
Garbage classification, collection and transportation, urban road cleaning equipment, municipal solid waste disposal.
Industrial organic waste gas pollution control and monitoring, desulfurization and denitrification, processing of motor vehicle exhaust, indoor air purification.
Environmental engineering design, construction and operation, environmental monitoring and testing.
