Citation: Zhiyong Li, The Air Quality Has Not Met the Standard, but Beijing government will make its commitment, Xinhua Daily Telegraph, 2008.
Abstract: Beijing has promised to meet standards for four types of pollutant for Beijing Olympic in 2008. The government will control and limit automobile number, coal burning and industrial dust to fulfill the promise it made on air quality in Beijing during Olympic.
2. What is the main point and the purpose of the article?
I. Since China is a developing country, it cannot apply the standard from developed country directly.
II. Korean automobiles are generally considered as more polluted compared to other types of automobile.
III. The number of days that air quality meets the standard was 247 in 2007 compared to only 100 days out of a year in 1998.
IV. SO2, CO and NO2 concentration have dropped almost 60%.
3.Does the way the article is written encourage you to take sides on the issue? Explain.
Natural gas is now the most ideal replacement of fossil fuel and coal in China nowadays. It generates less greenhouse gases and is easier to approach. China has already dug a tunnel and transport natural gas from the western part of China to the eastern part of China.
4.List the sources the author(s) use to support the claims on air pollution (i.e. scientific evidence, expert, government official, citizens, etc.). Provide names and short descriptions.
Jiongxi Wu: Korean employee in Beijing Hyundai Motor Company.
Dawei Wang: Leader of atmosphere department of Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau.
5.What bias did the author bring to the writing of this article?

The author did not mention any disparities.
7.What three points, details or references from the article did you follow up on to advance your understanding of the issued and actors described in the article?
Different regions have different standards regarding pollutant concentration. As long as the Beijing government improves the air quality compared to Chinese standard, it has made progress.
Reducing coal using and switch to natural gas is the future plan for China’s environment.
For Beijing, air quality monitoring and recovery is a long-term goal.
