I thought I should talk a little about this project, though it's research was never completed as a formal article due to lack of funding, because it deals so closely with education. The project began in 2003 as part of the Environmental Institute of Houston's Air Quality Education Initiative, and involved installing air quality monitors in 3 area high schools. These monitors uploaded real-time data to a website (now the data is available as an archive) and allowed more specific monitoring of the school, as school-age children are considered an at-risk population. They also provided workshops to teachers and students as part of the initiative, making air quality a part of science classes. Ultimately, in 2012 the funding
for this program, which originally came from the Houston Endowment, was suspended to focus on the issues of water resources, wetlands, and wildlife conservation. The Institute is part of The University of Houston-Clear Lake.
